Our Heritage
Bosveld Goud was built on a foundation of profound admiration for the wild landscapes of the Bushveld. We believe in collaborating with the environment, ensuring every beehive is tended with devotion and every yield is earned through patience. By protecting our bees and their habitat, we deliver honey that remains raw, untampered, and distinct. These bees forage across untamed flora beneath the warm sun, creating a flavor profile unique to our region. This artisanal craft requires grit and steady focus. We offer a product that is never processed. It is authentic essence, bottled for you.
Why the Bushveld?
The Bushveld creates superior honey by challenging the land and the bees to reach their full potential. Intense heat, rainfall, and vast horizons encourage robust nectar flows, while harsh periods ensure our colonies remain hardy and adaptable. This produces a honey that is vibrant and complex rather than predictable. Each bottle represents a specific moment in time, influenced by genuine environmental factors instead of artificial controls. No additives are used and nothing is rushed. You are experiencing the synergy of a natural cycle that has flourished for centuries on its own.
Why the resilient African Honey Bee?
The African Honey Bee flourishes within the Bushveld as it is naturally equipped for rugged environments. It withstands soaring temperatures and drought, navigating the natural landscape to forage among thorn trees and wild shrubs. These bees are quick to maximize nectar during blooms and are fiercely protective of their hives. Put simply, they live and create where other species falter.
What is the source of their nectar?
Bushveld bees find their nectar primarily within indigenous thorn trees and local veld flora. Main nectar sources come from the Sweet Thorn, Black Thorn, and various Acacia species, alongside trees such as the Marula and Leadwood. Wildflowers provide essential support for the honey flow, while the Sicklebush offers a significant boost during its flowering stage. The majority of our honey is derived from these resilient, nectar-dense trees that populate the natural Bushveld landscape.
